The score was 41-0 in a game that Tampa Bay needed to keep their slim playoff hopes alive. Unfortunately they just didn’t have it on Sunday. It is not surprising that the Bucs struggled to stop the Saints high powered offense. It is surprising that they could not score once on their putrid defense. Josh Freeman played one of the worst games of his young career, throwing 4 interceptions and adding another turnover with a fumble. Things weren’t much better in the running game. Blount ended up being the top runner with only 25 yards on 4 carries. Super rookie Doug Martin managed only 16 yards on 9 carries. The whole offense was simply miserable.
With this most recent loss, the Buc’s fall to 6-8 with 4 straight losses. Even with this latest 41 point loss, Tampa has scored more points than they have given up this year. That is a little disappointing considering it basically shows a lot of missed opportunities. Still with such a young team, there is a lot of promise going forward. Josh Freeman still leaves a lot of doubt to his critics, especially after this game. Still, I think his job is safe going into next season and gives Tampa Bay the best chance to win in 2013.
Next week the Bucs are back home against the Rams. St. Louis has had a solid season this year, but will fall just short of the playoffs. Similar to Tampa’s season this year. Neither team was expected to do much this season, so you have to say their season is mostly successful. Tampa will look to stop the bleeding once again this Sunday.
