Just beating the NFL trade deadline, the Buccaneers were seemingly the only team active, dealing CB Aqib Talib to the New England. Talib has one more game left on his 4 game suspension for taking Adderall. It is not surprising considering Schiano is a no nonsense coach and Talib has a long history of off field problems. However, he has great upside and is still fairly young at just 26. The issues were starting to out weigh the on field performance, and this is probably a better move in the long run. Tampa will go forward with one less headache on their team, but a talented one at that.
To get a 4th rounder is pretty impressive for the front office. Talib’s off field problems had gotten so bad that he had felony charges against him. It looks like he dodged a bullet on that one, but he still is a risk at destroying his career at any moment. He is curretnly serving a suspension, and was even rumored to be on the chopping block. Now, I don’t think Talib was ever a true threat to be cut, but he certainly wasn’t gaining too many more fans in Tampa. The Bucs will also send a 7th round pick to New England.
